A lot of wooded land in Wisconsin just sits there - not because the owner doesn't want to use it, but because you can't even get into it. Dense undergrowth, fallen trees, tangled brush. It becomes a wall instead of an asset. That's exactly what we were dealing with on this property in Merrill.

The goal here was two things: open up the property and cut in usable trails. We ran our Bobcat T770 with a Diamond Mowers forestry mulching head through the overgrowth and let it do the work. The mulcher grinds everything down - brush, saplings, small trees - and leaves a clean layer of mulch right on the ground. No hauling debris off-site, no burning, no stumps left sticking up. Just a clean, navigable surface when we're done.

What makes forestry mulching the right call for a job like this is that it doesn't wreck the land. The mature trees stay standing. The soil stays intact. You're not bringing in bulldozers and scraping everything bare. You're just clearing out what doesn't need to be there so you can actually move through the woods and use what you own.

The before shots on this one tell the story pretty clearly - thick stands of saplings and understory brush packed in tight, no way through. After we finished, the property had defined trail corridors cutting through the timber, wide enough to actually be functional. Hunting access, equipment access, recreational use - all of it becomes possible when the ground is cleared and you can get where you need to go.

If you've got a wooded parcel that feels more like a tangle than a piece of land you own, forestry mulching is worth a serious look. It's faster than manual clearing, cleaner than burning, and it doesn't compromise the character of the land in the process.
