Gravel driveways are tough, but they're not bulletproof. Weather, snowplow damage, and daily traffic wear them down over time - and once you start seeing ruts, bare spots, and standing water, it's only going to get worse the longer you wait. That's exactly what we were dealing with on this property near Lake DuBay.

The driveway had lost most of its gravel coverage, the surface had developed some serious low spots, and water was pooling right in the middle of the drive. That kind of drainage problem doesn't fix itself. Left alone, the base underneath keeps eroding and the whole thing gets softer and more unstable every season.

We used a Bobcat T770 with a compaction roller attachment to rework the base and get everything graded back out properly before bringing in fresh gravel. The compaction step is important - it's what keeps the surface from breaking down again quickly. Skipping it is one of the most common reasons a driveway repair doesn't last.

Once the base was solid and graded with the right crown to shed water, we topped it with fresh gravel and packed it down tight. The difference between before and after is hard to miss. The surface is clean, even, and draining the way it should - no more puddles sitting in the middle of the drive.

Gravel driveways are one of the most cost-effective options out there, but they do need attention every few years to stay in good shape. If yours is starting to look rough or hold water after a rain, that's your sign to get ahead of it before the base gets compromised.
