A pole barn is only as good as what it's sitting on. That's not an opinion - it's just how it works. Soft ground, poor drainage, and a sloppy base will cause problems down the road that cost way more to fix than doing it right the first time. That's exactly why we take site prep seriously on every job.
Here's what we were working with on this Kronenwetter job - raw, uneven ground with old debris and material that needed to come out before anything else could happen. We used the Bobcat to excavate, clear the rough stuff, and get the ground ready for a proper base. No shortcuts. You cut corners on prep work and you're just building problems into the pad from day one.
Once the site was cleared and graded, we got the gravel base in and compacted it down tight. The goal is a stable, level surface that handles weight, sheds water, and holds up through Wisconsin's freeze-thaw cycles year after year. The finished pad came out flat and solid - exactly what a pole barn needs underneath it.
This is the kind of work that doesn't always get a lot of attention because once the building goes up, nobody sees it. But it matters. A well-built gravel pad with proper drainage keeps your structure stable and your floors level long-term. We take pride in getting the base work right even when it's the part that disappears.
